This is positive attitude

As Gandhi stepped aboard a train one day, one of his shoes slipped offand landed on the track. He was unable to retrieve it as the train was moving. To the amazement of his companions, Gandhi calmly took off hisother shoe and threw it back along the track to land close to the first.Asked by a fellow passenger why he did so,

Gandhi smiled. "The poor manwho finds the shoes lying on the track," he replied, "will now have apair he can use."

Let Your Yes Be Yes

In one of his first attempts to run for political office, Lincoln wasgiven $200 by the Whig Party to cover his election expenses.

He won the election and then promptly returned all the money he had not spenton the election, $199.25.

He explained that he had traveled on his own horse and stayed at the homes of his friends. He said, "My only outlaywas 75 cents for a barrel of cider which some farm hands insisted that I treat them to." Lincoln illustrated Jesus' teachings in the Sermon on the Mount when He said, "Let your yes be yes and your no, no."

A Leader Should Know How to ManageFailure

Former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam : 'A Leader Should Know How to> Manage Failure' India Knowledge@Wharton:

Could you give an example, from your own experience, of how leaders should manage failure?

Kalam: Let me tell you about my experience. In 1973 I became the project director of India's satellite launch vehicle program, commonly called the SLV-3. Our goal was to put India's "Rohini" satellite into orbit by 1980.I was given funds and human resources -- but was told clearly that by 1980 we had to launch the satellite into space. Thousands of people worked together in scientific and technical teams towards that goal. By 1979 -- I think the month was August -- we thought we were ready. As the project director, I went to the control center for the launch. At four minutes before the satellite launch, the computer began to go through the checklist of items that needed to be checked.

One minute later, the computer program put the launch on hold; the display showed that some control components were not in order. My experts -- I had four or five of the mwith me -- told me not to worry; they had done their calculations and there was> enough reserve fuel. So I bypassed the computer, switched to manual mode, and launched the rocket. In the first stage, everything worked fine. In the second stage, a problem developed. Instead of the satellite going into orbit, the whole rocket system plunged into the Bay of Bengal.

It was abig failure. That day, the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization, Prof. Satish Dhawan, had called a press conference. The launch was at 7:00 am,and the press conference -- where journalists from around the world were present -- was at 7:45 am at ISRO's satellite launch range in Sriharikota [inAndhra Pradesh in southern India]. Prof. Dhawan, the leader of the organization, conducted the press conference himself. He took responsibility for the failure -- he said that the team had worked very hard, but that it needed more technological support. He assured the media that in another year, the team would definitely succeed. Now, I was the project director, and it was my failure, but instead, he took responsibility for the failure as chairman of the organization.

The next year, in July 1980, we tried again to launch the satellite -- and this time we succeeded. The whole nation was jubilant. Again, there was a press conference. Prof. Dhawan called me aside and told me, "You conductthe press conference today." I learned a very important lesson that day. When failure occurred, the> leader of the organization owned that failure. When success came, he gaveit to his team. The best management lesson I have learned did not come to me from reading a book; it came from that experience.

Sri sri

1. What is more important- knowledge or devotion?
Sri Sri: They go in hand. Its like a chair… if you pull one leg, the other will also come! Knowledge brings devotion and devotion brings knowledge.

2. How ca you incorporate spirituality in daily life?
Sri Sri: The first step is not to think that spirituality is not for daily life. It is not different from daily life. So you don't have to make an effort and try to incorporate it in your life. Your life can never be away from spirituality, it is only a matter of awareness.

3. If there Shiva inside us, then why do we do bad things?
Sri Sri: When you do bad things, your Shiva is sleeping. When your Shiva wakes up, he says, "It doesn't matter. Go ahead and everything will be alright." He brings back the power, the enthusiasm, the energy, to move on and on." In business or commerce, we only think about taking or getting, but on spiritual path, it is all about giving. How can we shift from one to
the other?

4. How can we remove the feeling of guilt?
Sri Sri: Being on the spiritual path is also about getting – you get so much joy just by seeing the joy in others. So, you do not have to feel guilty. Business is done with the head – you take more and give less. Spirituality comes from the heart – you give more and take only little. So never
do business with your heart and spirituality with your head. We all say that if we are more spiritual, we can be better human beings.

5. Howcan I be more spiritual?
Sri Sri: Just this question is good enough! From time to time, it will give you many ideas.

6. How can I be more useful? How can I be more spiritual?
That very question, that very inquisitiveness, is enough. Comment about attraction, desire and entanglement.

7. How can we avoid entanglement?
Sri Sri: You are the source of energy. Attraction happens when the energy on you wakes up. It is just electro-magnetic energy. One energy manifests at various points in the body (the seven chakras) as different flavours, different colours. When attraction gets satisfied very quickly, then
love does not blossom in life. When attraction is difficult to attain, it turns into love; and when that love matures, it becomes unconditional, it turns into dedication or devotion, the ultimate.
Love and longing go together. If there is no longing, if u kill the longing,m then love also slowly dies way. How can you keep the longing alive? By being centered, by being in yourself. Do not get completely lost in the other person, this becomes too much for the other person as well. Getting lost in the other person is called entanglement. If two lines run parallel, with some goal ahead, they will always be parallel, but if they focus only on one another, they will meet, cross and go in opposite directions! So, with attraction, you come together, meet and then separate; but if there is a goal, then the attraction remains forever. That's why , in life, your charm
is never lost when are well-founded and centered, when your attention is on the knowledge.
Love has no completion… because it is infinity. Something which has no boundary also has no completion. Radha is the longing, and Krishna is the love. Sometimes, the longing brings pain. To avoid the pain, you try to fill your space with something, but that pain makes you deep.

8. What is the greatest responsibility of a human being?
Sri Sri: Every responsibility, whether small or big, is important at different times. Even the smallest task can be done with perfection. You do not have to be a genius… just be simple.

9. How can I maintain happiness?
Sri Sri: Do not make such an effort. In order to save your happiness, you have to spread it. Share your happiness with everyone. Why worry in this short span of life when there is such beautiful knowledge?

The Perfect Boss

This is the story of. "The Perfect Boss"

There were about 70 scientists working on a very hectic project. All of them were really frustrated due to the pressure of work and the demands of their boss but everyone were loyal to him and did not think of quitting the job.

One day, one scientist came to his boss and told him - Sir, I have promised to my children that I will take them to the exhibition going on in our township. So I want to leave the office at 5:30 pm. His boss replied "OK, You're permitted to leave the office early today".

The Scientist started working. He continued his work after lunch. As usual he got involved to such an extent that he looked at his watch when he felt he was close to completion. The time was 8.30 PM.

Suddenly he remembered of the promise he had given to his children.

He looked for his boss, he was not there. Having told him in the morning itself, he closed everything and left for home. Deep within himself, he was feeling guilty for having disappointed his children. He reached home. Children were not there.

His wife alone was sitting in the hall and reading magazines. The situation was explosive; any talk would boomerang on him. His wife asked him, "Would you like to have coffee or shall I straight away serve dinner if you are hungry.

The man replied "If you would like to have coffee, i too will have but what about Children?" Wife replied "You don't know? Your manager came here at 5.15 PM and has taken the children to the exhibition"

What had really happened was ... The boss who granted him permission was observing him working seriously at 5.00 PM. He thought to himself, this person will not leave the work, but if he has promised his children they should enjoy the visit to exhibition.

So he took the lead in taking them to exhibition. The boss does not have to do it every time. But once it is done, loyalty is established.

That is why all the scientists at Thumba continued to work under their boss even though the stress was tremendous. By the way, can you hazard a guess as to who the boss was..?
.....
.....
....
.....
He was none other than the mastermind behind India's successful nuclear weapons and missiles program.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, President of India.

NRN & Sudha Murty Love story

Love Story of Narayana Murthy and Sudha (From Sudha's Autobiography)
It was in Pune that I met Narayan Murty through my friend Prasanna who is now the Wipro chief, who was also training in Telco. Most of the books that Prasanna lent me had Murty's name on them which meant that I had apreconceived image of the man. Contrary to expectation, Murty was shy, bespectacled and an introvert.
When he invited us for dinner.I was a bittaken aback as I thought the young man was making a very fast move. I refused since I was the only girl in the group. But Murty was relentlessand we all decided to meet for dinner the next day at 7.30 p.m. at GreenFields hotel on the Main Road ,Pune. The next day I went there at 7' oclock since I had to go to the tailor near the hotel. And what do I see?Mr. Murty waiting in front of the hotel and it was only seven.Till today, Murty maintains that I had mentioned (consciously!) that I would be going to the tailor at 7 so that I could meet him...And I maintain that I did not say any such thing consciously or unconsciously because I did not think of Murty as anything other than a friend at that stage.
We have agreed to disagree on this matter. Soon, we became friends. Our conversations were filled with Murty's experiences abroad and the books that he has read. My friends insisted that Murty as trying to impress me because he was interested in me. kept denying it till one fineday, after dinner Murty said, I want to tell you something. I knew this asit. It was coming. He said, I am 5'4" tall. I come from a lower middleclass family. I can never become rich in my life and I can never give you any riches. You are beautiful, bright, and intelligent and you can get anyone you want. But will you marry me? I asked Murty to give me some time for an answer. My father didn't want me to marry a wanna be politician, (a communist at that) who didn't have a steady job and wanted to build an orphanage...When I went to Hubli I told my parents about Murty and his proposal. My mother was positive since Murty was also from Karnataka, seemedintelligent and comes from a good family. But myfather asked! : What's his job, his salary, his qualifications etc? Murty was working as a researchassistant and was earning less than me. He was willing to go dutch with meon our outings.
My parents agreed to meet Murty in Pune on a particularday at 10 a.m sharp. Murty did not turn up. How can I trust a man to takecare of my daughter if he cannot keep an appointment, asked my father. At12noon Murty turned up in a bright red shirt! He hadgone on work to Bombay, was stuck in a traffic jam on the ghats, so he hired a taxi(thoughit was very expensive for him) to meet his would-be father-in-law.Father was unimpressed. My father asked him what he wanted to become in life.Murty said he wanted to become a politician in the communist partyand wanted to open an orphanage. My father gave his verdict. NO. I don'twant my daughter to marry somebody who wants to become a communist and then open an orphanage when he himself didn't have money to support his family. Ironically, today, I have opened many orphanages something, which Murty wanted to do 25 years ago.
By this time I realized I had developed aliking towards Murty which could only be termed as love. I wanted to marry Murty because he is an honest man. He proposed to me highlighting the negatives in his life. I promised my father that I will not marry Murty without his blessings though at the same time, I cannot marry anybodyelse. My father said he would agree if Murty promised to take up a steady job. But Murty refused saying he will not do things in life because somebody wanted him to. So, I was caught between the two most important people in my life. The stalemate continued for three years during which our courtship took us to every restaurant and cinema hall in Pune.
Inthose days, Murty wasalways broke. Moreover, he didn't earn much to ma nage. Ironically today,he manages Infosys Technologies Ltd., one of the world's most reputed companies. He always owed me money. We used to go for dinner and he would say, I don't have money with me, you pay my share, I will return it to you later. For three years I maintained a book on Murty's debt to me.. No, henever returned the money and I finally tore it up after my wedding. The amount was a little over Rs 4000. During this interim period Murty quit his job as research assistant and started his own software business.
Now,I had to pay his salary too! Towards the late 70s computers were entering Indiain a big way. During the fag end of 1977 Murty decided to take up a job as General Manager at Patni Computers in Bombay. But before he joined the company he wanted tomarry me since he was to go on training to the US after joining. My father gave in as he was happy Murty had a decent job, now. WE WERE MARRIED IN MURTY'S HOUSE IN BANGALORE ON FEBRUARY 10, 1978 WITHONLY OUR TWO FAMILIES PRESENT. I GOT MY FIRST SILKSARI. THE WEDDINGEXPENSES CAME TO ONLY RS 800 (US $17) WITH MURTY AND I POOLING IN RS 400 EACH.
I went to the US with Murty after marriage. Murty encouraged me to see America on my own because I loved travelling. I toured America for three months on backpack and had interesting experiences which will remain freshin my mind forever. Like the time when the NewYork police took meinto custody because they thought I was an Italian trafficking drugs in Harlem . Or the time when I spent the night at the bottom of the GrandCanyon with an old couple. Murty panicked because he couldn't get aresponse from my hotel room even at midnight. He thought I was either killed or kidnapped.
IN 1981 MURTY WANTED TO START INFOSYS. HE HAD A VISION AND ZEROCAPITAL...initially I was very apprehensive about Murty getting into business. We did not have any business background ..Moreover we were living a comfortable life in Bombay with a regular pay check and I didn'twant to rock the boat. But Murty was passionate about creating good quality software. I decided to support him. Typical of Murty, he just hada dream and no money. So I gave him Rs 10,000 which I had saved for arainy day, without his knowledge and told him, This is all I have. Takeit. I give you three years sabbatical leave. I will take care of the financial needs of our house. You go and chase your dreams without any worry. But you have only three years! Murty and his six colleagues started Infosys in1981,with enormous interest and hard work. In 1982 I left Telco and moved to Pune with Murty. We bought a small house on loan which also became the Infosys office. I was a clerk-cum-cook-cum-programmer. ! I also took up a job as Senior Systems Analyst with Walchand group of Industries to support the house. In 1983 Infosys got their first client, MICO, in Bangalore .
Murty moved to Bangalore and stayed with his mother while I went to Hubli to deliver my second child, Rohan. Ten days after my son was born,Murty left for the US on project work. I saw him only after a year, as I was unable to join Murty in the US because my son had infantile eczema,an allergy to vaccinations. So for more than a year I did not stepoutside our home for fear of my son contracting an infection. It was only after Rohan got all his vaccinations that I came to Bangalore where we rented a small house in Jayanagar and rented another house as Infosyshead quarters. My father presented Murty a scooter to commute. I once again became ! a cook, programmer, clerk, secretary, office assistant etal.
Nandan Nilekani (MDof Infosys)! and his wife Rohini stayed with us. While Rohini baby sat my son, I wrote programs for Infosys. There was no car, no phone, and just two kids and a bunch of us working hard, jugglingour lives and having fun while Infosys was taking shape. It was not only me but also the wives of other partners too who gave their un stinted support. We all knew that our men were trying to build something good.
It was like a big joint family, taking care and looking out for one another.I still remember Sudha Gopalakrishna looking after my daughter Akshata with all care and love while Kumari Shibulal cooked for all of us. Murty made it very clear that it would either be me or him working at Infosys. Never the two of us together... I was involved with Infosysinitially. Nandan Nilekani suggested I should be on the Board but Murtysaid he did not want a husband and wife team at Infosys. I was shocked since I had the relevant experience and technical qualifications. He said, Sudha if you want to work with Infosys, I will withdraw, happily. I was pained to know that I will not be involved inthe company my husbandwas building and that I would have to give up a job that I am qualified to do and love doing.
It took me a couple of days tograsp the reason be hind Murty's request.. I realized that to make Infosys a success one had to give one's 100 percent. One had to be focussed on it alone with no other distractions. If the two of us had to give 100 percent to Infosys then what would happen to our home and our children? One of us had to takecare of our home while the other took care of Infosys. I opted to be a home maker, after all Infosys was Murty's dream. It was a big sacrifice but it was one that had to be made.Even today, Murty says, Sudha, I stepped on your career to make mine. You are responsible for my success.I might have given up my career for my husband'ssake. But that does notmake me a doormat

VERY TOUCHING- DR. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam 's Speech in Hyderabad

haiDear friends ,
I am proud to forward this speech...... .......... ......... .... I am sure you will agree with every suggestion he has made........ .......... *Please read this article by giving 10 minutes from your busy life. Really good.... ** * *
The President of India DR. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam 's Speech in Hyderabad .. *

Why is the media here so negative?
Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, ourAchievements?
We are such a great nation.
We have so many amazing success Stories but we refuse to acknowledge them. Why?
We are the first in milk production.
We are number one in Remote sensing satellites.
We are the second largest producer of wheat.

We are the second largest producer of rice. Look at Dr. Sudarshan , he has transferred the tribal village into a Self-sustaining, self-driving unit. There are millions of such achievementsBut our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters. I Was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was the DayAfter a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place. TheHamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed his desert into an orchid And a granary. It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to. TheGory details of killings, bombardments, deaths, were inside in the Newspaper, buried among other news.
In India we only read about death, sickness, terrorism, crime. Why are we so NEGATIVE? Another question:
Why are we, as a nation so obsessed with foreignThings?
We want foreign T. Vs, we want foreign shirts.
We want foreign Technology.
Why this obsession with everything imported. Do we not realize that Self-respect comes with self-reliance?
I was in Hyderabad giving thisLecture,When a 14 year old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her what her goal In life is. She replied: I want to live in a developed India . For her, You and I will have to build this developed India . You must proclaim. IndiaIs not an under-developed nation; it is a highly developed nation.
Do you Have 10 minutes? Allow me to come back with a vengeance.

Got 10 minutes for your country? If yes, then read; otherwise, choice isYours.
YOU say that our government is inefficient.
YOU say that our laws are too old.
YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage.
YOU say that the phones don't work, the railways are a joke,The airline is the worst in the world, mails never reach their destination.
YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits.
YOU say, say and say.
What do YOU do about it?
Take a person on his way to Singapore . Give him a name - YOURS. Give him aFace - YOURS. YOU walk out of the airport and you are at your International Best. In Singapore you don't throw cigarette butts on the roads or eat in The stores. YOU are as proud of their Underground links as they are. You pay$5 (approx. Rs. 60) to drive through Orchard Road (equivalent of MahimCauseway or Pedder Road ) between 5 PM and 8 PM. YOU come back to the parking Lot to punch your parking ticket if you have over stayed in a restaurant orA shopping mall irrespective of your status identity... In Singapore youDon't say anything, DO YOU?
YOU wouldn't dare to eat in public during Ramadan, in Dubai .
YOU would not dare to go out without your head coveredIn Jeddah .
YOU would not dare to buy an employee of the telephone exchangeIn London at 10 pounds ( Rs.650) a month to, 'see to it that my STD and ISD Calls are billed to someone else.'
YOU would not dare to speed beyond 55 mph(88 km/h) in Washington and then tell the traffic cop,'Jaanta hai main kaun hoon (Do you know who I am?). I am so and so's son. Take your two bucks and get lost.'
YOU wouldn't chuck an empty coconut shellAnywhere other than the garbage pail on the beaches in Australia and NewZealand .
Why don't YOU spit Paan on the streets of Tokyo ?
Why don't YOU use Examination jockeys or buy fake certificates in Boston ??? We are stillTalking of the same YOU.
YOU who can respect and conform to a foreign systemIn other countries but cannot in your own. You who will throw papers and cigarettes on the road the moment you touch Indian ground. If you can be aninvolved and appreciative citizen in an alien country, why cannot you be thesame here in India ?Once in an interview, the famous Ex-municipal commissioner of Bombay , Mr. Tinaikar , had a point to make. 'Rich people's dogs are walked on thestreets to leave their affluent droppings all over the place,' he said. 'Andthen the same people turn around to criticize and blame the authorities for inefficiency and dirty pavements. What do they expect theofficers to do? Go down with a broom every time their dog feels the pressurein his bowels? In America every dog owner has to clean up after his pet has done the job. Same in Japan .
Will the Indian citizen do that here?' He's right.
We go tothe polls to choose a government and after that forfeit all responsibility.
We sit back wanting to be pampered and expect the government to do everything for us whilst our contribution is totally negative.
We expect thegovernment to clean up but we are not going to stop chucking garbage allover the place nor are we going to stop to pick a up a stray piece of paper and throw it in the bin.
We expect the railways to provide clean bathroomsbut we are not going to learn the proper use of bathrooms.
We want Indian Airlines and Air India to provide the best of food andtoiletries but we are not going to stop pilfering at the least opportunity. This applies even to the staff who is known not to pass on the service tothe public. When it comes to burning social issues like those related towomen, dowry, girl child! and others, we make loud drawing roomprotestations and continue to do the reverse at home. Our excuse? 'It's thewhole system which has to change, how will it matter if I alone forego mysons' rights to a dowry.' So who's going to change the system? What does a system consist of ? Very conveniently for us it consists of ourneighbours, other households, other cities, other communities and thegovernment. But definitely not me and YOU.
When it comes to us actually making a positive contribution to the system we lock ourselves along withour families into a safe cocoon and look into the distance at countries faraway and wait for a Mr.Clean to come along & work miracles for us with a majestic sweep of his hand or we leave the country and run away.Like lazy cowards hounded by our fears we run to America to bask in theirglory and praise their system. When New York becomes insecure we run toEngland . When England experiences unemployment, we take the next flight outto the Gulf. When the Gulf is war struck, we demand to be rescued andbrought home by the Indian government. Everybody is out to abuse and rape the country. Nobody thinks of feeding the system. Our conscience ismortgaged to money.Dear Indians, The article is highly thought inductive, calls for a greatdeal of introspection and pricks one's conscience too.... I am echoing J. F. Kennedy 's words to his fellow Americans to relate to Indians.....'ASK WHAT WE CAN DO FOR INDIAAND DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO MAKE INDIAWHAT AMERICA AND OTHER WESTERN COUNTRIES ARE TODAY'Lets do what India needs from us.

Thank you,

Dr. Abdul Kalaam
